Dear Readers!
We present to your attention the periodical scientific online journal “Eastern Azimuth: Economics, Sociology, Ethnology.” The founder of the publication is the Institute for Mongolian, Buddhist and Tibetan Studies of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences – a scientific institution with a 100-year history and a qualified staff of scientists. The journal will be published quarterly starting from June 2025.
The emergence of a periodical scientific publication in the online space is driven by the actualization of modern processes in the fields of economics, sociology, and ethnology in the Asian regions of Russia, as well as in the adjacent territories of neighboring countries – Mongolia and China. Northeast Asia has always remained among the interesting research objects of academic science, concealing centuries-old secrets of history, subtle Eastern philosophy, and the diversity of different peoples and their cultures. The economic rise of Asian societies, the Eastern mentality, demographic potential, social processes of migration, urbanization, the hybrid combination of sedentary and nomadic lifestyles in the territories of the Mongolian world, the preservation and development of the unique culture of the peoples of East Asia, as well as other relevant processes, increasingly attract the attention of scientists and researchers. In this regard, the high-level declared turn of Russia to the East places additional responsibility on contemporary researchers.
The changing world demonstrates phenomena, events, and processes that require scientific review and deep reflection by renowned scientists and emerging researchers on the pages of our journal. Along with globalization, local bifurcation points are intensifying, the study of which is an important component of modern Oriental studies. A special place among the latest scientific trends is occupied by the study of cross-border areas as zones of interaction between communities of adjacent territories. The cross-border factor is increasingly characterized as a space of untapped potential in the fields of economics, humanitarian cooperation, and international relations. The regionalization of many geopolitical, socio-economic, and ethno-national processes requires special attention from Mongolian, Buddhist, and Tibetan studies scholars, whose research specifics are reflected in the basic scientific directions of the founder – IMBT SB RAS.
We hope that the gradual expansion of geography, topics, and the interdisciplinary nature of some articles will allow the journal to cover the most interesting and relevant issues of Oriental studies. The electronic scientific online journal “Eastern Azimuth: Economics, Sociology, Ethnology” provides a platform for interesting academic discussions, publications of original research results, and novice authors can test their skills for further scientific achievements.
The editorial staff of the journal consists of an editorial council and an editorial board. The editorial council includes authoritative scientists in the specified fields from academic and educational centers in Russia, China, and Mongolia. The editorial council is headed by Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Scientific Director of IMBT SB RAS B. V. Bazarov. Publications in the journal should be aimed at developing the relevant fields of science.
