RUSSIAN REGIONS OF INNER ASIA:
FEATURES AND FACTORS OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

The article is devoted to the study of the features and factors that determined the conditions and trends of economic development of the Russian regions of Inner Asia: the Altai Republic, the Tyva Republic, the Buryatia Republic, and the Zabaikalsky Krai. Historical aspects of the creation and development of administrative-territorial entities are considered. The significance of the status of a territorial unit for the development of a region is shown. An analysis of the natural and climatic features of the studied subjects of the Russian Federation is carried out. It is established that a significant part of the territory of all regions is located in areas equivalent to the Far North and is characterized by increased production and consumer costs. A high degree of demographic sparseness of space and a low level of urbanization of the Russian regions of Inner Asia are revealed. Signs of the peripherality of the analyzed territories are shown, including tariff distances characterizing the transportation of goods by rail. A conclusion is made about the insignificant influence of the border location of the Russian regions of Inner Asia on their economic development.
