GROWTH POINTS? SUBURBAN AREAS OF REGIONAL CENTERS
OF THE RUSSIAN TRANSBAIKALIA AND FAR EAST IN 1989–2020

The article analyzes the population dynamics of the suburbs of 11 regional centers of the Russian Transbaikalia and the Far East from the late 1980s to the early 2020s, and proposes an original approach to delimitation of these suburban areas. The results of the study indicate a general increase in the number of residents in the suburbs of 6 out of 11 regional centers of the macroregion, while in the other five there is a decrease. The variability of processes depends on the scale of the city-center, the demographic base of intraregional rural-urban migration, natural and climatic conditions and other factors.
