Against the backdrop of increased interest in the scientific and journalistic discourse regarding the internal socio-political situation in Mongolia and the prediction of a «Ukrainian scenario» here, which implies a deformation in a known direction of state ideology and public values, this article attempts to study the potential factors of a possible systemic crisis, the reality of anti-Russian sentiments in contemporary Mongolian society, and the destructive potential of current Mongolian nationalism. Individual recent publications on the stated topic that shape this discourse are analyzed. Alongside the country’s well-known demographic, socio-economic, and environmental problems, the civilizational factor, Mongolia’s direct economic dependence on Russia and China, and the little-noticed ambiguous role of the multi-ethnic Bayan-Ölgii aimag are characterized. A conclusion is drawn about the formation in Mongolia, geographically doomed to cooperate with two bordering superpowers, of a complex of contradictions that are intensifying under conditions of pro-Western propaganda and the depopularization of traditional Mongolian values here.
Keywords: Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar, special military operation, anti-Russian propaganda, NGO, traditional values.
