MAPS AND BORDERS IN RUSSIAN HUMANITARIAN DISCOURSE

The article is devoted to the methodology of the history of cartography in Russia and the assessment of the category of «borders» in Russian humanitarian discourse. In modern science, it claims a general scientific, philosophical level, is present in common and professional languages, and is projected onto many spheres of existence. The purpose of the article is to identify the place of the category of «borders» in ethnocultural and ethnosocial research in dynamics, in connection with changes in socio-political values, methodology, methods, and approaches of domestic social sciences and humanities. The work shows how this category has acquired a multidimensional character in the course of development. In modern Russia, borders are factors of geopolitical, national, and ethnic identity. Today, the assessment of the situation in border regions relies on an arsenal of interdisciplinary approaches. The development of new tools in mapping and analyzing borders meets the objectives of developing and implementing effective social and national policies in Russian regions.

In modern science, the category of «boundaries» claims to be of a general scientific and philosophical level, is present in common and professional languages, and is projected onto many spheres of existence. The purpose of the article is to show the place of the category «borders» in ethnocultural, ethnosocial research in dynamics, in connection with changes in socio-political values, methodology, methods and approaches of domestic social sciences and humanities. The paper shows how this category has acquired a multidimensional character in the course of development. In modern Russia, borders are factors of geopolitical, national and ethnic identity. Today, the assessment of the situation in the border regions is based on an arsenal of interdisciplinary approaches. The development of new tools in the mapping and analysis of borders meets the objectives of developing and implementing effective social and national policies in Russian regions.
