DEPRESSED TERRITORIES: IDENTIFICATION AND SPECIFICS
OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT REGULATION

The article is devoted to the study of depressed territories. The causes of economic decline in old industrial regions of Russia and foreign countries are examined. Problems and features of state regulation of economic development in depressed territories are identified. Difficulties in identifying regions and single-industry towns in a depressed state are described. An analysis of state policy supporting single-industry municipalities within the preferential regime of territories of advanced socio-economic development is conducted. A conclusion is drawn about the insufficiency of measures for federal support of depressed regions in Russia.
