The article is devoted to the analysis of children’s digital consumption practices and parental mediation, ensuring their online safety and the transformation of parent-child relationships. The relevance of the research is determined by the growing influence of the digital environment on the social well-being of the younger generation. The information base includes the results of non-formalized interviews with parents of children of preschool and primary school age (n = 20), as well as data from the monitoring of the digital transformation of the economy and society, organized by the Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge of the National Research University Higher School of Economics, and studies conducted by the Public Opinion Foundation. The authors have established the predominance of direct and restrictive measures in parental control practices with fragmentary use of specialized software tools. At the same time, a trend has been identified of a gradual shift from prohibitive strategies to forms of parental mediation based on trust, collaboration, and the development of self-regulation skills in children. The obtained results allow for a deeper understanding of the family’s role in shaping a culture of online safety and the social well-being of the younger generation in the context of the digital transformation of society.
Keywords: children’s social well-being, digital consumption, online activity, parent-child relationships, parental mediation, parental control, children’s digital safety.
